In the dynamic world of artificial intelligence, Teodara Szasz stands as a beacon of inspiration and progress, blending technical expertise with a deep commitment to ethical innovation. Her journey into AI began with a strong foundation in computer science, further solidified during her role at Neurostar Gmbh. Reflecting on this pivotal time, she shares, "What inspired me to pursue a career in AI was the powerful blend of technology's potential and its capacity to make a meaningful impact on society."

Throughout her career, challenges have been a constant companion, particularly in sensitive areas like healthcare. Speaking about her experience at Philips, she highlights, "While developing ML infrastructure for processing over a million medical images, I faced the challenge of ensuring the reliability and accuracy of our AI models in a real-world clinical setting." These challenges required her to consider not only technical precision but also the ethical implications of her work.

Recognition as a finalist at the WAI Awards NA 2023 holds deep meaning for her. "This recognition is not just a personal achievement but a celebration of the collective efforts of my teams, collaborators, and the broader AI community," she says. The award serves as a reminder of the importance of collaboration and the value of diverse perspectives in shaping AI's future.

On the topic of diversity and inclusion, she underscores the importance of varied viewpoints in the AI ecosystem: "Women can drive this change, ensuring AI solutions are inclusive and representative of all sections of society." She believes mentorship and role modeling are critical, noting that they help inspire the next generation of women to break into the field.

Motivated by the transformative potential of AI, particularly in healthcare, she explains, "In roles where I developed ML frameworks for cardiac imaging and early detection of diseases like prostate cancer, I've seen the life-changing potential of AI." This ability to improve patient care and outcomes continues to drive her work and exploration in the field.

To aspiring professionals, especially women, her advice is clear and encouraging: "Don’t be deterred by the challenges or the underrepresentation of women in the field. Instead, see this as an opportunity to pave the way and make a difference." Her journey is a testament to the importance of curiosity, perseverance, and a commitment to excellence.

Her closing words resonate as a call to action: "Your presence in AI is both essential and transformative. Each one of you brings unique insights and approaches that are crucial for developing AI technologies that are equitable, inclusive, and reflective of the diverse society we live in."
