Women in AI Endorses the Hamburg Declaration on Responsible AI for the SDGs



At Women in AI, we are proud to endorse the Hamburg Declaration on Responsible AI for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a powerful international initiative that brings together global stakeholders around a shared vision: using artificial intelligence to drive sustainable, inclusive development and ensure no one is left behind.

The Hamburg Declaration is a call to action and a roadmap for embedding responsible AI principles into global efforts to achieve the 2030 Agenda. It lays out a bold and timely framework grounded in the five core pillars of the SDGs, People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnerships.

  • People: AI must uphold human rights, promote gender equality, and ensure inclusion. This means amplifying the voices and participation of marginalised communities, women and girls, and those most affected by algorithmic harms.

  • Planet: Responsible AI must also be sustainable. From energy-efficient models to AI-enabled climate solutions, we must align innovation with our commitments to protect the environment.

  • Prosperity: AI should be an engine of inclusive economic growth. Equitable access to digital infrastructure, local innovation ecosystems, and digital skills development (especially for women and underserved groups) must be central to our strategies.

  • Peace: We must build public trust in AI by tackling disinformation, deepfakes, and other forms of misuse. Transparent, accountable systems are essential to safeguarding democratic values and social cohesion.

  • Partnerships: Finally, achieving this vision requires deep collaboration. Shared data, open science, and digital public goods must form the backbone of a truly global and inclusive AI ecosystem.

As a global nonprofit dedicated to shaping inclusive AI, Women in AI supports this declaration and its vision of a human-centred, equitable, and ethical AI future.

We invite our community, researchers, practitioners, industry leaders, and policymakers, to join us in endorsing the Hamburg Declaration and to continue working towards an AI landscape that accelerates, rather than obstructs, progress toward the SDGs.
