DIVERSIFAIR: Championing Intersectional Fairness at ACM FAccT and EWAF 2025

Women in AI is proud to support the DIVERSIFAIR project awhich will be sharing its latest research at two key conferences this summer: ACM FAccT 2025 in Athens and EWAF 2025 in Eindhoven. As a partner in the DIVERSIFAIR consortium, we’re excited to see the project’s work on participatory, intersectional approaches to AI fairness gain international attention.

At ACM FAccT, the DIVERSIFAIR team will present their paper:

📝 “Fairness beyond the Algorithmic Frame: Actionable Recommendations for an Intersectional Approach”

📅 Thursday, 26 June | 10:45 AM

📍 Participatory AI session

👥 Authors: Steven Vethman, Quirine T.S. Smit, Nina M. van Liebergen, and Cor J. Veenman

The session dives into how fairness in AI can move beyond narrow, statistical definitions and embrace socio-technical, intersectional perspectives. It’s a powerful contribution aligned with WAI’s mission to build inclusive and socially responsible AI.

Meanwhile, at EWAF 2025, the DIVERSIFAIR consortium will share two posters that turn theory into action:

Why does this matter to Women in AI?

At WAI, we advocate for fairness, transparency, and inclusion at every stage of AI development. Through DIVERSIFAIR, we’re helping to advance a future where intersectional thinking and participatory practices are not the exception, but the standard.

Join us in following DIVERSIFAIR’s journey and help amplify voices that are reshaping AI for the better.
