April 18th, 2019 - Our WaiCAMP initiative is expanding thanks to our brilliant WAI Ambassador Angela Kim! She organized it at Insurance Australia Group on the 15th & 16th of April 2019 for nineteen Year11 girls from Cabramatta High School in Sydney Australia.
Women in AI partnered with Insurance Australia Group to run an AI Robot coding camp for the girls who are going to prepare for the University Exam next year. It was an invaluable opportunity for the girls who are smart and excel in science and Maths but didn’t have an exposure to the robots or coding prior to the WaiCAMP.
The course not only covered mBot coding practice but also AI team from IAG and Verge Labs from Sydney came to run a demo on the practical application of AI, tools, ethics and fairness in Algorithm to provide the full packaged workshop for the girls.
Special thanks to:
- the IAG which fully sponsored for the 2 full days venue, 22 mbots, and catering: Exec team, CEO @Peter Harmer, CAO @Bora Arslan
@Hana Sakai @ Dimitri Semenovich from IAG directors from AI team;
- Verge Labs Cofounders @Ian Hansel @Anthony Tockar for AI ethics and tool demo,
@Manchun Li & Joy Yin for volunteering for 2 full days to help out the camp
- @ Seema Khan @jane Yoo - wonderful Science teachers from Cabramatta High School;
Last but not the least, to the special who made the dreams come true for 19 young girls to have a vision on AI - @IAG Chief Customer Officer @Julie Batch, who believed in the need of support for girls in AI and generously sponsored the first WaiCAMP in Australia. Thanks for demonstrating inspiring leadership!!
